Mr. Khaled Geyushi, Vice Chairman of Geyushi Automotive Industry, participated in the 9th Annual Egypt Automotive Summit, which focused on the localization of Egypt’s sustainable transportation industry. During the opening session, Mr. Geyushi shared the stage with key industry leaders, including Ms. Sharon Nishi, Executive Director of General Motors Egypt & North Africa; Mr. Tarek Atta, Chairman of Iveco; Mr. Ayman Said, CEO of Stellantis Egypt; and Engineer Mohamed Abdel Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Egypt.
As part of the conference, an opening panel was held to discuss the private sector’s efforts to export locally manufactured transportation solutions to African markets. During the session, Mr. Geyushi highlighted Geyushi’s initiatives in studying international markets and developing sustainable and smart transportation solutions tailored to the needs of clients in the Gulf and African regions. He confirmed the company’s plans for 2024 to design buses for tourism, public transport, and school operations, targeting clients in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, North Africa, and Turkey.
Mr. Geyushi also addressed the challenges facing the company, including limited access to reliable data on African markets and the lack of high-quality local components needed to support the localization of transportation manufacturing. These issues hinder local products from competing with imported alternatives. Additionally, he noted Geyushi’s recent venture into manufacturing heavy-duty trucks, which faces stiff competition from imported, used European trucks that enjoy greater customs incentives compared to locally manufactured ones.
Regarding the future of locally made transportation solutions in international markets, Mr. Geyushi expressed optimism. He emphasized that Egyptian-made buses have a promising future, contributing to the national economy by saving foreign currency through import substitution and creating job opportunities for young professionals. He also praised the Egyptian government’s responsiveness to private sector demands, which is vital for the growth and success of the industry.
